Default Columbia Diggins, 2010.

Good Day All,

Considering that a fair number of our membership here not only does civil war, but also gold rush events, I thought to post a word or two about the upcoming annual Diggins event. The event interprets the year of 1852 of a California mining camp, however the date for this year's event will be June 3-6th, 2010.

Anyone wishing to participate, or has done so in the past, should turn in all of their forms no later than April 15th, 2010. For more information, you can check the event blogsite at www.columbiadiggins.blogspot.com or telephone the CSHP office at 209 588-9128.

It's a great event, and a beautiful park, so please consider this event on this year's history schedule!

Cool Off to see the elephant!

Good Day All,

For those of you who do both, gold rush and civil war events, I'm very nearly ready for departure. Hmmmm, let me correct that, I'm not the slightest bit packed, nor ready, but the calendar says I gotta get moving along.

For those here, from the 1st New York Regt., Stevenson's unit, Pat McKenna is your contact man. I've got that whole unit scheduled for dinner at my house Friday evening, plus the area around the house already staked out for you. It pretty much will be the same foot print as last year. Since you fellas fly light, I've no real worries for you, but should the weather change, I'll keep the carpet in the front room available.

There is a meeting Wednesday at 6PM in the theater for last minute notes and school tours, so if you're in town by then, be sure to listen in to the latest changes and details. If you have something urgent to report, you can either phone the park, Pat, or my husband Sam Slick. The folks in Columbia are generous, friendly, and very knowledgeable and put on one fantastic event, so come and see it if you have the chance.

Travel safe one and all, enjoy your Memorial Day weekend, and thank a Veteran for his sacrifice for making this country great.

Default Thanks

Mr and Mrs Peebles

Thanks for a great time at the Diggings. Your boarding house was the best impression there as well as our home for the event. We will be looking forward to Tres Pinos as well as the Diggings. We will try to keep Sgt Carson and "Chigger" out of trouble (tall order).

Greetings Mr. Perry,

Well, good luck with that task! Keeping Pat out of trouble, is that even possible? Trouble sticks to him like those cottonwood blossoms blew all over town!

Well, I don't think I have the best venue, but at least I can say that mine was a very happy one. The diggins is a wonderful place, the people are superb, and the talent there vast, plus they have the best builder in the world organizing the event. Larry B., he is a miracle worker, and without his many hours of time spent there, the park would suffer, and my home wouldn't be there. I feel that I'll owe him a debt my entire lifetime, as I'll never be able to purchase the kind of happiness that I feel when I'm back home in Columbia, in that humble house. So yes, Mr. Perry, we did have some great laughs, some pranks at Pat's expense, and some fine memories to last us a lifetime. I still laugh at Pat's face when he saw that stack of pots and pans on his desk!

Nelson, Ernie, and Mr. Ritchie, you were much missed, and I hope that you'll be able to attend next year. But the best cheers should go to our Andrew, who after many years of being buried, found some of my own sterling silver that was left to me as a legacy from my grandmother. Wow, what a surprise to have some of the pieces returned to me after all of these years. Talk about shock and awe! Thank you Andrew for those sharp eyes of yours.

I'll write more about Columbia at a later time, but would like to thank all who volunteered and made the event fantastic. When we packed up to leave Columbia the radio said the temp was 89 degrees, right now, I'm basking in the warmth of 58 degrees, with our mild sea breezes.
